Project Focus Areas
- Context
British Columbia’s wine industry faces an interesting incongruity. Despite BC wine continuing to win countless international awards and global industry accolades, the share of BC wine consumed in BC is among the lowest of any wine growing region. New policy levers are needed to grow the industry.
- Our Approach
- Compared the share of BC wine consumed in BC to other key wine growing regions.
- Developed four unique and bold Provincial policy changes that would collectively address this key challenge.
- Demonstrated the economic impact (jobs, tax revenue) of implementing the policy changes and the resulting industry growth.
- Outcome
The wine industry has had success in advocating for some of these policy changes while others remain a key priority. The share of BC Wine consumed in BC continues to increase.
