- Context
With autonomous vehicles (AVs) gaining traction worldwide, a local municipality recognized the need to take a forward-thinking approach and future-proof their cityscape for a possible future with AVs. Cascadia Partners was enlisted to conduct a comprehensive scenario planning exercise that anticipates various adoption scenarios and formulates integration strategies to maximize positive outcomes in any of these scenarios.
- Our Approach
- Engaged with stakeholders across the city to identify external factors that could influence AV adoption and identify key levers available to the city to positively shape future outcomes.
- Conducted a scenario planning exercise and mapped four different adoption scenarios, detailing the technological, social, economic, and political factors contributing to the adoption and outcome of each scenario.
- Synthesized our findings into a public facing report with a series of ‘no-regret’ moves that the city could implement to address existing urban challenges such as transit efficiency, urban design, and traffic congestion, irrespective of the specific adoption scenarios.
- Outcome
The report was well received by city leadership and is serving as a roadmap as the city continues to monitor the evolving AV landscape; positioning itself to respond effectively to achieve positive outcomes if or when necessary.
