- Context
As part of their response to the global climate crisis, a Canadian municipality has been investigating options to capture carbon emissions through nature-based solutions such as forests, wetlands, and grasslands. Cascadia was engaged to help navigate the role of municipal governments in deploying these solutions and the most effective tools they have for doing so.
- Our Approach
- Workshopped policy, land use, and investment tools for promoting nature-based climate solutions with municipal planning and parks staff.
- Evaluated the value-for-money of various pathways for delivering nature-based climate solutions.
- Developed a roadmap and set of recommendations for pursuing nature-based climate solutions as part of a larger climate action strategy.
- Outcome
A roadmap and set of recommendations was presented to and endorsed by City Council along with ambitious targets for reducing carbon emissions through carbon sequestration efforts.
